The wedding gown is the most iconic representation of the wedding day. A bride’s wedding dress, whether it’s a coture wedding gown or one of the hundreds of beautiful and affordable off-the-rack wedding dresses, should make her feel her best. Bridal gowns come in a huge array of styles, and the bride should be sure to choose one that fits her personality and body.
Wedding gowns are not limited to the simple a-line white dress. Brides have thousands of options available in a wide range of colors, styles, lengths, and cuts.
Before any other options are considered, a bride should consider her own body shape and what style wedding gown will look best. For brides with straight figures, a fitted mermaid dress or slinky sheath can be pulled off with ease. For the curvier bride, an a-line skirt will enhance the narrowness of her waist. Strapless wedding gowns are a classic choice, and will look best on women who are comfortable showing their arms and shoulders.
A common mistake many brides make when they head to the bridal salon is to commit to a dress style they have seen in books but have not tried on. A traditional ball gown may be the type of dress you have dreamed about since you were a girl, but if the style does not work with your body shape, your day will be spent feeling uncomfortable and not as beautiful as you might otherwise. Certainly, it is a good idea to spend time looking at wedding dresses before you go to the salon, and be ready to tell the stylist what you like and dislike. Once you have the style chosen, then consider colors and fabrics. White and ivory are traditional, but go for red or pink or silver if you like!
