All About Wedding Flowers
There are so many things to do when you are knee deep in wedding planning. You and your spouse-to-be need to select wedding favors, decide what band or DJ will provide wedding music, figure out the wedding table layout, and make plans for wedding transportation. In the midst of all the wedding planning, it’s easy to forget things – but make sure you don’t forget about wedding flowers!
Before choosing your flowers, you must decide on the overall wedding design so you can appropriately match the flowers to the look of the wedding. There are countless looks you can choose for your wedding, such as gothic, modern, Victorian, Indian and traditional. Each one of these looks calls for different flower arrangements. For example, jasmine is perfect for an Indian wedding while lilies are more appropriate for a modern wedding.
You will also need to decide on your color scheme. You may decide that you only want to deal with a single color and get all your flowers in that color, or you can pick out several colors and enjoy a multi-color scheme. Keep in mind that if you pick a single color scheme, this doesn’t mean you have to have only one type of flower. If you pick red, you can mix together all kinds of flowers, like roses, poppies, petunias and daisies.
The wedding location can also influence your choice of flowers. A couple that gets married in a beautiful garden may require far fewer flowers than a couple getting married in a church. Another thing to consider is if anyone in the wedding party is allergic to certain flowers. This is especially important for people that may be carrying flowers – do you really want your maid of honor to start uncontrollably sneezing during the ceremony because you didn’t know she was allergic to roses?
Flowers can be expensive, so do some shopping around before making your final purchase. Try to avoid expensive trendy flower boutiques. Don’t judge the quality of the flowers by the look of the storefront – you can find some really wonderful high quality flowers in hole in the wall stores. Make sure you’ve budgeted your wedding funds appropriately from the very start – instead of looking into antique engagement rings or having a custom engagement ring made, you may want to buy a cheaper ring and keep the leftover money for wedding expenses like flowers.
